PBS Explores African-American Contributions to History and Society

An Impressive Array of New and Encore Programming Before and During Black History Month

ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Throughout the year, PBS invites viewers to explore the vast contributions of African Americans. Emmett Till Audio Book Set For January Release; Features Newly Told Civil Rights Stories, Cold Case Findings

Release of the first audio book of the Emmett Till story - Who Killed Emmett Till? - is set for January 15, in time for February’s Black History month.

he story of Till, a 14-year-old Chicago boy killed in the Mississippi Delta in the summer of 1955, has resurfaced as the FBI continues to focus on this and other cold cases from the modern civil rights movement.

“Emmett Till’s lynching sparked the modern civil rights movement. There are many people who still do not know this important story and this audio book will help fill the gap,” Susan Klopfer, the book’s author, said.

The author weaves two stories throughout the book: life in Forsyth County during 1912, when all black residents were burned out of the city following the death of a white girl; and from 1965 to present day, showing a county that did not have a single black resident until years after civil rights leaders marched through, protesting the hatred that dominated for so long.
